A North Carolina company is recalling about 167,639 pounds of raw pork, beef, and goat that federal officials say were produced without federal inspection yet carried a USDA mark of inspection. The products went to a Georgia distributor for further distribution to retail and restaurant locations nationwide, and some may still be in home freezers.
The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall on Sept. 22. Star Meat Delivery Inc., of Lucama, N.C., produced the items on various dates before that day. They bear the establishment number EST. 1363, which FSIS said has no federal grant of inspection, and the agency said any product with that number should be considered misbranded and unsafe to eat.
