Falkirk intend to stick by what's working and won't change approach against Celtic

Coll Donaldson has made it clear that Falkirk will approach their Premier Sports Cup quarter-final against Celtic with confidence, refusing to adopt a defensive strategy despite the formidable opponent's recent Champions League triumph.

Celtic showcased their dominance midweek, delivering a stunning 5-1 victory over Slovakian champions Slovan Bratislava, further establishing their impressive form so far this season.

However, Donaldson insists that Falkirk, who are unbeaten in Scotland's second tier, will not be intimidated and are prepared to take the fight to the Glasgow giants on Sunday under John McGlynn's guidance.

“I think we’re lucky in that I would much rather be playing for a gaffer that’s going to go to Celtic Park and have a go rather than just park the bus and wait on the inevitable,” said the Bairns' centre-back.

“It’s refreshing to have a manager that’s looking at ways we can attack them and how we can look after the ball. There’s no point in working throughout pre-season on a system, training every day that way, then throwing it all out the window when you go and play Celtic.

“If you’ve go and sit on the edge of your box, they’ve got good enough players to break you down so you need to have something different.

"If you do have a bad result, at least you had a go at doing it on your own terms. We’ll try and play the way we normally do and get after Celtic. Anything can happen, we’re really excited for it.”

Acknowledging the task that lies ahead, the 29-year-old continued: “It doesn’t get any harder domestically than this. A lot of people have said ‘oh no, they’ve won 5-1 in a Champions League game’, but we know how good Celtic are even if they hadn’t won on Tuesday.

“That’s not made a difference to our thinking. We’ve done our homework and we do feel there are aspects we can attack and try and hurt Celtic.”
