The Atlanta Falcons made two more transactions on Monday afternoon. After signing three players on Sunday, the team added cornerback William Hooper and defensive back Josh Thompson. The Falcons released running back Robert Burns and wide receiver Austin Mack in corresponding moves.
Burns had been on the active/physically unable to perform list for the past few weeks. Mack appeared in Friday’s preseason loss to the Miami Dolphins, recording zero catches on one target.
Thompson, 25, is a former undrafted free agent out of Texas who appeared in six games for the Tennessee Titans in 2022. Hooper is a 24-year-old who went undrafted out of Northwestern State in 2023. He spent the last season with the New England Patriots, mostly on the practice squad.
After losing DeMarcco Hellams for the foreseeable future and placing Harrison Hand on the injured reserve list, the Falcons needed to add some depth in the secondary. According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the team is set to work out Pro Bowl safety Justin Simmons this week.
