The quarterback, Kirk Cousins, expressed his condolences shortly after the shooting, emphasizing the need to support the affected families, school, and community during such a challenging time. Cousins mentioned the impact of the incident, stating, 'That was pretty sobering. Praying for the families that are affected, the school, the community. It's a tough deal. I'm going to go home tonight and hug and kiss my kids.'
Prior to the game, a moment of silence was observed to honor the victims of the shooting. The Pittsburgh Steelers emerged victorious in the season opener, defeating the Atlanta Falcons with a score of 18-10.
