Falcons free up $1.7M in cap space by cutting Jaylinn Hawkins

The NFL is an absolutely brutal business and fourth-year Falcons safety Jaylinn Hawkins saw the worst of it on Tuesday. Hawkins, who lost his starting job to Jessie Bates over the offseason, was released by the team.

Hawkins has started 22 games since entering the league in 2020, making 16 starts in 2022. The 26-year-old appeared in 48 total games for Atlanta and registered 124 tackles, nine passes defended and four interceptions.

According to Over The Cap‘s projections, cutting Hawkins frees up $1.7 million in cap space while adding $166,728 to the team’s dead money total. This would give the Falcon approximately $7.7 million in cap space to make a potential move.

Fans began to speculate about possible moves when the team restructured Jake Matthews’ contract a few weeks ago. Check out 12 free-agent options for Atlanta.
