Fake job racket busted in Haridwar, 4 held

HARIDWAR: Four people, including a Congress leader, were arrested on Thursday for cheating several unemployed youth in Haridwar on the pretext of providing them jobs in the state government under departmental quota.

The racket has targeted more than 100 youths of Haridwar, but only five complaints have been received, a police officer said, adding that fake joining letters of Uttarakhand Public Service Commission, Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission, stamps, army uniforms and printers were recovered from the Congress leader’s house in Laksar.

Accused were identified as Congress leader Renu Nautiyal, her brother Vijay Nautiyal, Nitin Kumar and Sidharth - all residents of Laksar - while another accused Ajay Nautiyal is on the run.

Haridwar rural SP Swapan Kishor Singh told TOI, “A fake job racket was operated from Laksar and was active in Haridwar district. It cheated more than 100 youths in Haridwar and cases were registered at Laksar, Bahadrabad, Roorkee, Kaliyar and Mangalore police stations.”

“The gang members lured unemployed youth to provide recruitment in government departments such as health and education without giving exams under the 10% departmental quota. They took interviews for the jobs in big hotels where guards in army dress and other staff were deployed by the gang members.

"After taking the interview they demanded Rs 5 to 10 lakh for joining letters. After receiving money, they gave fake joining letters in the name of the UKPSC and UKSSSC,” Singh said.
