An 82-year-old man will remain behind bars after the body of a woman was found at a home in Sydney's south-west.

Paramedics were called to a property on Pandora Street in Greenacre on Friday morning to respond to a medical episode.

On arrival, they found the body of 60-year-old Sharyn Simonds "severely emaciated".

NSW Police were alerted and arrested 82-year-old Fady Adhamy, believed to be the woman's sole carer.

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with murder.

Mr Adhamy did not appear as his matter was mentioned briefly at the Parramatta Bail Court and he was refused bail.

Police will allege Ms Simonds was murdered sometime between September 18 last year and March 18, 2022.

On Saturday, neighbours said they were shocked by the death but described the pair as reclusive.

One man told reporters the two had moved into the house together a decade ago, after they moved from nearby housing commission.

Detectives were seen at the home today photographing and removing items like cash and other personal property.

Mr Adhamy is due back in court on May 16.
