Thousands of users reported issues with Facebook from around 8.30pm. Within minutes, Instagram and WhatsApp also appeared to go down. Users have complained that this is the second time in the last week they have struggled to access the sites.

Many have turned to Twitter to vent about the issue. One user said: "Is Facebook down, or is it just me...? Can't see any references to it on my timeline." Another wrote: "Anyone else on twitter to try and find out if Facebook and Instagram are down?"
A third Twitter user posted: "Thought my internet and phone were broken… nope just Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp... hi Twitter."
Others jokingly called for Elon Musk to buy Meta after he sealed a $44billion takeover of rival Twitter.
