Arsenal have officially announced the signing of Portuguese midfielder Fabio Vieira.
The north Londoners had been tracking the 22-year-old international for some time and it was reported on Friday that they had agreed a €40 million (£34 million) fee with Porto for his services. And David Ornstein of The Athletic had reported that the creative playmaker would sign a five-year deal at the Emirates Stadium, with the fee said to be €35million (£30million) upfront and a potential €5million (£4million) of add-ons. The report went on to say that the signing of the silky midfielder was driven by manager Mikel Arteta, who is a huge admirer of the Portugal Under-21 international.
Vieira has made it no secret of his delight at signing for Arteta's side during his first interview with the official media team. "As I said, Arsenal is a historic English club", he said when asked why he decided to join the club.

"It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. Everyone knows that Arsenal are a fantastic team. That was one of the main factors behind me choosing Arsenal.
"I really like the way the team plays and I can’t wait to get started." Vieira enjoyed an excellent 2021/22 campaign, netting seven times whilst also providing a hugely impressive 16 assists across all competitions.
He can operate as an attacking midfielder, playing as a traditional no.10, an advanced no.8 or even on the flanks.
