Fabio Carvalho lifts lid on Manchester City celebration and new Liverpool role

Fabio Carvalho insists he has to "step up" when called upon by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp after injuries to Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota have left numbers short for the left sided attacking role.

The youngster felt the trust of the manager when being substituted on while the score was 0-0 in Liverpool's match against Manchester City. The Reds scored shortly after the introduction of Carvalho.

Carvalho, who arrived from Fulham in the summer, has made 10 appearances so far this season, but could be in line for more minutes on the pitch as Klopp looks to fill the void left by Diaz and Jota.

The memorable win at Anfield on Sunday was one of the many reasons why the 20-year-old wanted to secure the switch to Liverpool in the summer and now Carvalho has the chance to put his stamp on the team.

"You want to come to Liverpool to play with the best and play on the biggest stage, which is what the game was the other day. But we'll just keep building our momentum and keep going," Carvalho told Liverpoolfc.com.

"We enjoyed the win because we deserved it, so we kind of celebrated – as we should, every win's important, especially this year in the Premier League. But we have to focus on West Ham because they're a tough team to play against, so we're just focused on that now."

The Portugal Under-21 international is well aware he must "step up" for Liverpool when needed, whether that is from the start of the match or off the bench.

"That's something I felt because it was 0-0 and the manager obviously felt good and trusted in me to put me on. Not just for the team but for myself, it's something to build on and we'll keep going.

"I've got to step up when needed – whether I start or come on. Regardless of what I do, I just need to be able to come on and produce. We'll see what happens."
