The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued two flight restrictions in response to reports of questionable drone activity near President-elect Trump's New Jersey golf club. The first reports of drone activity were received on Nov. 18 in Morris County, located approximately two miles north of Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in Somerset County.
At the request of federal security partners, the FAA implemented two temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) due to ongoing drone sightings in Central Jersey. One TFR covers airspace near Solberg-Hunterdon County Airport, which includes the area above Trump Bedminster. The other restriction prohibits flights over Picatinny Arsenal, a significant U.S. Army research and development hub in Dover, N.J., operated by its CCDCAC armaments center.
The flight ban over Trump Bedminster will remain in effect for the remainder of the week, while the restriction over Picatinny Arsenal is set to last until Dec. 26. The FAA emphasized its commitment to safely integrating drones into the National Airspace System, stating that unauthorized drone operations are thoroughly investigated. Drone pilots found endangering aircraft or individuals risk having their certification revoked and may face fines of up to $75,000.
Local law enforcement has also been investigating reports of continued drone activity in the region. Additional sightings have been reported a few miles north of Bedminster in Mendham and Parsippany, near the intersection of I-80 and I-287.
