The Singapore Grand Prix takes place today with the grid promising an entertaining race following an impromptu three-week break for Formula One.
The cancellation of the Russian GP has produced something of a stop-start feel to the second half of the 2022 season, which came back from its traditional summer off and straight into a triple-header, resulting in Max Verstappen being on the brink of claiming his second F1 title.
The imperious pace of the Red Bull will be tested around the tight, flood-lit streets of Singapore with Ferrari and Mercedes determined to spoil an early coronation for the Dutch star. And a furious Verstappen will start eighth on the grid at the Marina Bay Street Circuit after aborting his final qualifying lap on Saturday due to a fuel issue, with Charles Leclerc on pole for Ferrari, ahead of Sergio Perez, Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz.
Verstappen can still claim the title with a whole five races to go in a number of ways, which generally require him to win with Leclerc outside the top eight and Perez outside the top four. He faces a tall order to get that done from P8 - though stranger things have happened!
