Miami Grand Prix chiefs confirmed they are in talks with Formula 1 over turning the event into a night race.
The event made its debut on the annual calendar last year and attracted a star-studded guestlist. The same is true this weekend with plenty of famous faces spotted around the paddock, as F1 continues to cash in on the sport's exponential growth in the US market.
It is the first of three F1 races to take place in the States this season. And that is set to remain the case for quite a while yet, as Miami is just a couple of years into a decade-long contract.
But there could be a large change to the event on the horizon before then. Tom Garfinkel, Miami Dolphins chief executive – the track is centred around the NFL franchise's Hard Rock Stadium – revealed talks with F1 bosses over altering the timings of the on-track action.
"We have had some discussions about a night race and potentially doing that and what it would look like," he said. "There are a lot of factors that go into that with F1 and television so we have to weigh all those things up, but we are certainly open-minded." That would be bad news for UK F1 fans, as it would mean the race would take place at an unsociable hour given the time difference.
Speaking about the huge guestlist, he added: "The celebrity attendance is pretty remarkable. It shows the relevance of Formula 1 and how popular the sport is right now. The sort of wealth, CEO and celebrity factor, is like nothing I have ever seen at another sporting event."
The Dolphins themselves have taken part by putting some of the drivers through their paces in an American football drills test. And wide receiver Tyreek Hill was wearing a full Alpine race suit as he spent Friday practice in the team's garage cheering on NFL superfan Pierre Gasly.
On Saturday, two of the riches men in the world were spotted in the pit lane. Elon Musk spent some time in the Red Bull garage chatting with Christian Horner and F1 chief Stefano Domenicali, while Jeff Bezos was wearing McLaren gear on the team's pit wall.
And Sunday's main event will attract even more big names. Jake Paul made his presence known with an interesting interview with Sky Sports, while Roger Federer joked he has more time to attend events like this now that he has retired from tennis.
