MIAMI – The Rangers, who made roster moves on seven of the eight days leading up to the All-Star break, didn’t even make it to the start of the second half with the team intact.
Utility player Brad Miller returned from the break with a still stiff neck and was placed on the injured list retroactive to Monday. Ezequiel Duran returned from Triple-A Round Rock to replace Miller, who had been scratched from a start over the weekend because of the neck issue. Duran caught an early-morning flight from Austin, arrived at Loan Depot Park an hour before first pitch and was in the lineup at second base against the Miami Marlins.
Duran, 23, was called to the majors straight from Double-A in May and played 16 games before being sent to Triple-A to work in the outfield. He hit .295 with six homers in 78 at-bats at Round Rock, and had been on a 15-for-40 tear (.375) over the last week with four home runs.
While at Round Rock, Duran started nine games in center field, six at shortstop and three at third base.
