EY to create 340 new jobs in Birmingham as it pledges to treble its headcount by 2026

Professional services business EY looks set to create 340 new jobs in Birmingham over the next four years.

The company wants to treble the size of its Birmingham consulting practice by 2026, increasing its team from 160 to more than 500 people.

The move forms part of EY's wider plans to double the size of its national consulting practice which will see its headcount go from 5,100 to 10,200.

More than half of the new roles will be based outside of London, in cities including Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

EY says the expansion is being fuelled by an increasing demand from clients implementing large scale, strategic transformation programmes.

It will be backed by an investment of £75 million, which is in addition to the £95 million the firm has already invested since 2020.

Simon O'Neill, office managing partner at EY in the Midlands said: "This represents a significant investment in our Midlands-based consulting practice and is part of our ambition to increase our business in the Midlands.

"Creating new jobs and expanding our existing capabilities across technology, transformation and strategy are all critical in supporting the success of our Midlands-based clients as well as playing our part in contributing to the growth of the regional economy and its competitiveness.

"Attracting and retaining the right skills and experience across all levels of the business, including graduates, apprentices and partners is absolutely critical, helping us to continue to deliver an exceptional client experience, as well as deliver on our people priorities, facilitating new opportunities and exploring new ways of working."

In the last two years, EY's consulting business has appointed 80 new partners and made four acquisitions – Pythagoras; Seaton Partners; Lane4 and PeakEPM.

Benoit Laclau, managing partner for consulting at EY in the UK & Ireland, who was appointed in May 2020, said: "The strong market demand for consulting services is giving us confidence to invest at scale – £95 million so far and £75 million planned this year alone – and to grow our headcount.

"There is real competition in the labour market for top talent, and we are proud of the progress we have made to date.

"We aim to recruit diverse talent across the UK and Ireland, regardless of where they are based, promoting flexible and hybrid working to attract talented individuals."

EY will be recruiting across all levels, from partner level through to graduates and school leavers.

It will also provide its employees with access to professional qualification courses and is specifically investing in its workforce's technology skills.

Mr Laclau added: "As well as focussing on fuelling our own growth plans, we recognise the role we play in training future business leaders, who will no doubt need enhanced transformation and technology skills throughout their career.

"It also helps businesses to stay ahead of the curve and make an impact in their local market."
