A prolonged heat wave is tightening its grip across the southern United States, with scorching temperatures, oppressive humidity and unusually warm nights expected to continue across a broad stretch of the region.
From Texas and the Gulf Coast to Florida and the Carolinas, temperatures are climbing into the 90s and, in some locations, the triple digits. The combination of extreme heat and humidity is pushing heat indices above 105°F in several areas, with some spots already approaching or exceeding 110°F.
