Extra police patrols are already planned for Easter, with three people killed on Queensland roads so far these holidays.
A police road safety operation has resulted in hundreds of people being charged over the first five days of the Queensland school holidays.
According to state government figures there have been 62 deaths due to crashes on Queensland roads and 23 of those were motorcyclists,
So far police have charged more than 340 people with drink and drug-driving offences.
That figure is still too high, according to Acting Assistant Commissioner Chris Stream said.
"Three lives lost is too high. One hundred and thirty-six drug drivers is too high; 205 drink drivers is too high," he said.
"The more drink and drug drivers we can get off the roads, the more people we’re getting home safely to their families.
"The same goes for speeding drivers and distracted drivers.
"Wherever you’re travelling across the state this weekend, expect to see a police officer."
Gold Coast Acting Superintendent Scott Knowles said Queensland had double demerits in force year-round.
"If you're done for speeding twice, the second offence will attract double demerit points," he said.
"Queensland is all year, so it's about modifying behaviours during the entire year, not just the holiday period."
Track closures for major rail works
Travellers have been urged to plan their trips ahead of time for the rest of the month due to rail track closures across south-east Queensland.
Cross River Rail works will impact rail services on the Gold Coast, Beenleigh and Ferny Grove from Friday until April 27.
Buses will replace trains during the closure while construction work is undertaken.
"That means there will be some impacts to travel and transport services during construction," Cross River Rail delivery authority boss Graeme Newton said.
"These track closures will allow crews to complete major works safely and efficiently, and although we plan them during quieter times on the network, we appreciate some people will be inconvenienced."
