With summer over and the colder months looming, members of the public have been warned that this will be one of the hardest winters in years due to the rising cost of energy bills. As a result, a lot of people are searching for different avenues of extra financial support from the government.
If you are a carer, then you may be entitled to an extra payment, plus a Christmas bonus, the Manchester Evening News reports. The Department for Work and Pensions can give carers an extra £69.70 a week, which is equal to £278 a month, or more than £3,000 a year.
To qualify, the claimant must live in England, Scotland, or Wales, and make £132 a week or less after tax, National Insurance, and expenses. Despite this, Carer's Allowance is not dependent on National Insurance contributions and is therefore not means-tested which means it is not based on a claimant's personal income or savings.
