An explosive device in a car that detonated outside a police station on the outskirts of Belfast was “sent to kill officers”, the chairman of the Northern Ireland Policing Board has said.

Homes in the Kingsway area of Dunmurry have been evacuated, and a cordon is in place as forensic officers examine the burnt-out vehicle beside the PSNI station on Sunday morning.
