An explosive device in a car that detonated outside a police station on the outskirts of Belfast was “sent to kill officers”, the chairman of the Northern Ireland Policing Board has said.
Forensic officers were examining the burnt-out vehicle on Sunday morning in a side street beside the PSNI station in the Kingsway area of Dunmurry.
