'Explains a lot': Andy Murray pokes fun at YouGov poll on Olympics

ANDY Murray might have retired from tennis but that doesn’t mean he’s stopped giving us his brilliant takes on social media.

The latest, would you believe it, comes in response to a YouGov poll.

Don’t get too excited though, it’s not about the failings of the Tories but rather about how ordinary people in the UK feel they might get on in the Olympics.

In a post on Twitter/X, YouGov said: “27% of Britons reckon that they could qualify for a sport at the 2028 Olympics, if they started training today.”

Around 15% of people thought they’d have a shot in the air rifle competition, while apparently badminton also isn’t as hard as we thought with 10% of people believing they could compete.

Responding to the post on Twitter/X, tennis star Murray posted laughing emojis and said the poll “explains a lot of the posts athletes receive on this platform”.

In fairness, many people in the comments of Twitter/X agreed with Murray, who played his last professional game at the Paris Olympics.

One user said: “Only three British athletes qualified for badminton this year… and 10% think they could qualify?”

“Were they surveyed at the pub,” said another user while another asked Murray if he could perhaps “coach me in tennis”.

Another said those who thought they could qualify were “totally delusional” while others felt they might have a chance to make it in the breakdancing competition.

But if Murray, a three-time Olympic medallist, seems unconvinced, then who are we to argue?
