Explainer: Why Centre wants to remove AFSPA from northeast

NEW DELHI: Almost a month after partially lifting the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 or AFSPA from India's northeast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said efforts are on to remove it completely from the region as the law and order situation has improved in the past eight years.
