The top tips have been shared by boiler manufacturer Ideal Heating, ahead of Boiler Switch On Day - an annual event that takes place every October 17. It is recognised as the most popular day for people to switch their boilers on.
According to experts at Ideal Heating, 78 per cent of boilers break down around this time of year, often with the cost of repairing them totalling up to as much as £500.
