With the price of household bills rising at a rate faster than we’ve ever seen before, more and more people are turning to side hustles to cover gaps in their bills.
One of the most prevalent side hustles is the use of social media, for example using YouTube or TikTok to create content with the intention of earning money online.
This is usually through Adsense or the TikTok Creator Fund.

Data from search analysis engine Ahrefs shows that YouTube searches for “how to make money on YouTube” stand at 44,000 per month, with TikTok’s similar search not far behind with 35,000 results per month.
With there being interest in turning a side hustle into the main, Reboot SEO Firm utilised the social media calculator at Lickd to establish just how many views on YouTube and TikTok the Irish need to equal their yearly salary.
Ranking in eighth place, Irish citizens would need to gain 10,009,636 YouTube views or 113,081,832 TikTok views to earn enough revenue to match the €35,076 net average annual salary in the country.
Switzerland tops the list, needing over 19 MILLION YouTube views and 218 MILLION TikTok views to meet their salary of €67,800.
At the other end in the 40th spot is Turkey as Turks with dreams of being a YouTube or TikTok star would need to attract 1,047,980 or 11,839,339 views to earn enough revenue for it to be equivalent to the net average yearly salary of €3,672 in the country.
