Expert says popular 'sleepy' drink recipe works - but urges important change

Getting a good night's sleep should be a top priority for you, as it's great for the mind, body, and soul. Not only does it ensure you've got enough energy for the day ahead (so you don't have to rely on caffeine!) it can make you feel all cosy if you have a bedtime routine that you religiously stick to, allowing yourself to switch off and get your beauty sleep.

Searches for "tips for improving sleep quality" have gone up 150% in the last year alone, and off the back of that, beauty experts at LOOKFANTASTIC have explained why the 'sleepy girl mocktail' is a great method to get to sleep - but there's one ingredient that may need changing.

The sleepy girl mocktail is just one trend taking TikTok by storm (TikTok)

With people taking a keen interest in wellness, many have been turning to social media to find quick and easy tips to help improve their sleep quality, with #sleephack amassing over 296.5 million views on TikTok.

The Sleepy Girl Mocktail trend, also known as the Sweet Dreams Mocktail, has over 735,000 views on TikTok, and it's made out of ingredients that have "potential benefits" when it comes to your sleep schedule.

The experts said: "The Sleepy Girl mocktail, consisting of tart cherry juice, magnesium powder, and Olipop soda, has potential benefits for sleep. Tart cherry juice contains melatonin, magnesium promotes relaxation, and the soda adds a fizzy touch.

"Adequate magnesium levels in the body can contribute to better sleep quality and help alleviate insomnia symptoms."

But, it's not all positive, as the experts shared that "some commercial tart cherry juices and sodas may contain added sugars, which can affect blood sugar levels and potentially disrupt sleep" - so if you are going to try this trend, it would be best to opt for "unsweetened versions, or using alternatives like stevia" as it can "minimise the impact of sugar on rest."
