Big expansion plans have been approved for a Southport respite hotel catering for people with disabilities.
Sandpipers, based next to Marine Lake in Fairway, Southport is run by charity Revitalise which provides holiday accommodation and support for people with disabilities looking for a seaside stay.
As part of the charity’s plans, which were submitted to Sefton Council in June, the hotel aimed to increase its capacity by a total of 12 beds.

At the moment, the retreat, which has been based in Southport since being opened by Prince Charles in 1988, is able to cater for up to 38 people in mostly single bedrooms.
Alongside the living accommodation, there is also a hydrotherapy pool and lounge with views out across the popular Marine Lake.
As part of the remodelling plans, which will also see changes to car access and parking and the building of a new canopy at the main entrance, a pedestrian footbridge on the site will be removed.
Granting permission for the extension subject to conditions, Sefton Council planning officers said proposals for “wild planting” as part of the landscaping on the site was particularly welcome. Officers added that that overall plans were “acceptable” as they would have “no impact” on the surrounding area.
