'Exhausted' elderly stray dog 'slept for two days' after being rescued by DSPCA

An "exhausted and starving" elderly stray dog "stayed in his bed for two whole days and slept" after being rescued by the DSPCA.

Gandalf was found by rescuers last week and was underweight. His coat was in very poor condition with bald patches and his skin was dry and sore with alopecia.

"Gandalf was brought to our treatment area and his carer Lynda said that apart from toilet breaks he stayed in his bed for 2 whole days and slept," the DSPCA said. "It's heartbreaking to see old dogs being forgotten about and discarded but sadly we see if too often."

Thankfully, the old pooch is now safe and the DSPCA said he is already feeling better. His vet said Gandalf has "a ravenous appetite" and "has hair regrowth and his skin looks less inflamed but still crusty".

The old pooch is receiving "lots of love" from DSPCA staff and vets (DSPCA)

The DSPCA care staff and vets will continue to keep a close eye on the older gentleman over the next few weeks to make sure "he receives the best care and lots of love".

The animal welfare organisation are looking for a "loving forever home" for Gandalf. You can register your interest here.
