Just two seasons on from returning to his homeland, Masour Ousmane Dembele has won this year’s Ballon d’Or – France’s sixth and, in a way, least likely recipient of football’s most prestigious individual award.
Receiving the 69th edition of the Ballon d’Or at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, Dembele follows in the footsteps of luminaries such as Raymond Kopa (1958), Michel Platini (1983, 1984 and 1985), Jean-Pierre Papin (1991), Zinedine Zidane (1998) and Karim Benzema (2022).
