One of the undoubted highlights at this summer’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe will be a series of events celebrating The Comic Strip Presents. 43 years after the first episode Five Go Mad In Dorset was aired on Channel 4’s opening night The Standard can exclusively reveal that there will be special director’s cut screenings followed by interviews with those involved.
The significance of the ground-breaking comedy, which ran for 41 anarchic instalments (so far…more of that below) cannot be underestimated. Anticipation was always high and not just because there were only four TV channel back then. Imagine a cross between The White Lotus and Black Mirror, hit shows that are familiar yet different each time.
