'Exciting' opportunity to become 'beach ranger' this summer

An opportunity to become a "beach ranger" has become available for six months of the year.

Sefton Council has started advertising for the full-time position that starts on April 1.

The job entails 36 hours of work a week and offers one weekend off in three, working across Southport, Ainsdale, Formby and Crosby beaches.

Sefton Council has listed the job's salary as grade E SCP 7 - 11 meaning it is £20,092 to £21,748 per year (Pay Award Pending).

The role includes tasks such as maintaining Green Sefton sites and often means that the person hired will have the chance to work across a number of locations and complete numerous different tasks.

The job is temporary, with applicants expecting to start on April 1 until September 30, with 13.5 days holiday available.

Sefton Council's website said: "Sefton Council have a number of Temporary Ranger posts available within Green Sefton’s Land Management Team, to assist with increased workload during the busy summer season, across three different roles.

"Green Sefton provides our communities with a clean, green Borough including parks and green spaces, nature reserves, trees and woodlands, play and recreational facilities, municipal golf courses and our coast, beaches and countryside, which include specially protected sites and landscapes, benefitting the health and wellbeing of residents, visitors, investors, and nature.

"Applicants will be expected to undertake cleansing and general maintenance duties across the Council’s Green Sefton sites and facilities. The work involves a variety of duties including working outdoors, lifting and carrying, dealing with the public, using tools and equipment and handling monies where appropriate. Applicants should ideally hold a full clean driving licence.

"All post holders will be assigned to a team/depot to report to at the start/finish of each day. Duties may vary in location and in accordance with business needs, e.g. working on different sites from time to time. Return travel will be provided from the depots each day."

People have until February 28 to apply, with interviews being undertaken in March.

Other roles may also be advertised by the council, subject to funding.
