Exciting Cambridge Jack Iredale verdict which provides Bolton Wanderers appeal amid transfer link

Bolton Wanderers have been linked with a move this summer transfer window for Cambridge United defender Jack Iredale.

The Scotland-born Australian has made 40 appearances so far this season for Cambridge United in their first season back in League One.

The 25-year-old is out of contract at the U's this summer, though, and appears to be attracting interest in his services.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Wanderers are among a few sides reported to be interested in the defender.

Championship side Preston North End and League One leaders Wigan Athletic are also credited with an interest if he does depart the Abbey Stadium.

The left-back has been played out of position at times this season, at centre-back and as a holding midfielder, and has drawn high praise for his performances.

If he does move to Bolton, he could prove to be a useful option in all three areas of the pitch, providing competition for Declan John on the left flank and MJ Williams in the middle of the park.

He would also complement the options Ian Evatt has at his disposal in the heart of defence.

And Cambridge United first team coach Barry Corr, speaking in December, feels Iredale is the best in the left-back role in League One, which should Wanderers encouragement as to what they would be getting if they do opt to go for the defender.

“He just goes on and on. He’s played almost every position,” Corr told CambridgeshireLive.

“I think he’s the best left-back in League One, I’ve not seen anyone better than him. He’s a brilliant player with a brilliant attitude.

"I haven’t seen a better left-back in League One this season, and we’re delighted to have him.

"“His left-foot is outstanding, he’s so powerful. I’ve not seen a better one, he’s an outstanding player.”
