Ahead of Sunday’s big game, loyal Nottingham Forest supporters are backing the team whether they are going to Wembley or watching the match here in Nottingham. But many people told Nottinghamshire Live that they can’t bear to go through yet another penalty shootout.
The big Championship play-off decider at Wembley on Sunday May 29 is almost here. Nottingham Forest will be playing against Huddersfield with kick off at 4.30pm.
If the Reds take Nottingham Forest to victory in the all important match on Sunday, they’ll be playing in the Premier League. Goalkeeper Brice Samba has been tipped to rise to the occasion again for Nottingham Forest when they head to Wembley.
In Arnold, Sherwood and Nottingham City Centre, small stalls selling Nottingham Forest merchandise such as scarves and flags have been spotted. In Arnold, people told Nottinghamshire Live about how they’re feeling for the big day.
Leanne Whitehall, 26-years-old, a nursery nurse from Arnold is “buzzing for the game.” Unfortunately, Leanne wasn’t able to get tickets to Wembley.
She said: “I can’t wait! My little boy is just as buzzing as me and his dad.
“I can’t sit through another penalty shootout but my God, we’re all excited. Come on you Reds! I’m absolutely gutted that we couldn’t get tickets but we’ll all be glued to the sofa no doubt on Sunday.
“If we get to the Premier League, it’ll be celebrations upon celebrations.”
Loyal Nottingham Forest fan, 50-year-old Carl Bainbridge from Arnold works for Amazon. Carl will be going to Wembley on Sunday.
He told Nottinghamshire Live: “I’m going to Wembley! I’m buzzing, I’m so excited. No penalty shootouts, please, I couldn't take another one.
“My favourite player is Stuart Pearce but in recent years, it’s got to be Samba.”
Brice Samba was the hero of Nottingham Forest's play-off semi-final victory over Sheffield United with his saves in the penalty shootout. Charlie Jones, 21, will be going to Wembley, with his friends and his father’s friend. He said: “We can’t wait. I just know that the atmosphere will be great.
“I’m just praying they get through, honestly. I’m a Forest fan through and through and always will be.
“When they win, it will be unforgettable.”
54-year-old Gary Smith from Arnold is not going to Wembley but will be watching the game from home.
Gary told Nottinghamshire he’ll celebrate “with a couple of cans” if the game is successful on Sunday evening.
He said: “I’ll definitely be watching it from home, I’m feeling on top of the world, all the players are great. Go on, you can do it, Reds!”
