'Excited' Disney fans all say the same thing about live action Moana announcement

Fans are 'so excited' to hear that Disney will be making a live action version of Moana.

Moana, which came out in 2016, was a huge hit with fans both young and old, featuring voice acting from Auli'I Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, and Jermaine Clement, as well as songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the hit musical Hamilton. It follows Moana, the daughter of her island's chief, who must return the heart of the goddess of nature.

Dwayne Johnson took to TikTok to announce the film would be getting a live action remake less than 10 years after it's original release. Disney has so far had big successes with remakes of classics like The Lion King, although some have called for more focus on new, original ideas.

In the video, Dwayne appears on the island of O'ahu in Hawai'i, where he spent some of his childhood, along with his two daughters. He said: "The Pacific Islands, and their cultures, inspired a very special story. One that you all know very well, and that story is... Moana.

"We are so excited and happy to announce that a live action reimagining of Moana is in the works. Moana, Gramma Tala, the music, the dance, Te Fiti, Pua the pig, the village, the beautiful, powerful ocean, Heihei the chicken, and of course, Maui will be in it too.

"As many of you may not know, the brilliant team at Disney animation, my partners, we found so much inspiration for Maui in the mana and the presence of my late grandfather, the legendary High Chief, Peter Maivia. He would walk in, light up the room, the energy, the tattoos, the hair, the bod, when you're staring at a demigod!

"So you guys can see just how deep this story is for me. Because in a way, when I bring Maui to life, I'm doing it in the spirit of my grandfather."

He goes on to say that it is still early days for the film, before his daughters bring out a life-sized replica of Maui's hook from the film.

Fans were loving the announcement in the comments. One person said: "Omg I'm so excited" and another said: "This is the best news to ever happen oh my god".

Others had a few casting suggestions for the film. One person said: "This better be a good movie, and by good, I mean Kevin Hart as the chicken" and another said: "Awesome! Can we have Auli'I Cravalho play Moana since she was the original singer!"

A third wrote: "If Kevin Hart isn't the chicken I don't want it". Another added: "Kevin Hart can play HeyHey."

However, others were hoping Disney would put more resources towards new, original stories. One person said: "This is really cool and all, but why do we keep making live action remakes instead of more new stories?"
