Exam results across West Lothian indicate tenth successive year of improvement across a number of key indicators

School students across West Lothian received their exam results this week.

The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) National Qualifications and Awards results were received on Tuesday.

And early indications show that the results from pupils across West Lothian’s 11 secondary schools have improved across a number of key indicators at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) which includes Highers and equivalent Level 6 qualifications.

Overall, this means a 10th successive year of improvement for pupils across West Lothian Council schools.

Pupils across the local authority have the opportunity to undertake a wide range of courses either in their own schools or in conjunction with partners through the West Lothian Campus and at West Lothian College.

As well as National Qualifications, pupils have achieved National Progression Awards, HNCs, Skills for Work courses and Foundation Apprenticeships among others.

Executive councillor for education, Andrew McGuire, joined pupils from all 11 schools who were among many in West Lothian to successfully achieve a range of qualifications.

He said: “I have to congratulate each and every pupil across West Lothian who has received their results this week. They should all be proud and take a moment to reflect on all the hard work they have put in.

“Early indications show that overall, it’s now been a decade of continued achievement for West Lothian schools. This shines a light on the incredible work of teachers and support staff across our school community.

“They too, should reflect on this astounding achievement as it is a reflection on the fantastic support they offer our pupils on a daily basis.”

Councillor McGuire added: “The period around results day can also lead to uncertainty for some and it is of vital importance that anyone who is feeling unsure of what to do next knows that support is available via their school and a number of external organisations.”
