Exact time Edinburgh will blasted by 'winter wipeout' with snow, ice and possible blackouts

After residents in Edinburgh recently experienced snowfall in the capital for the first time this winter, it looks like more could be on the way before the end of the week.

The Met Office has issued another yellow weather warning for snow and ice on Friday, December 16, as showers of the white stuff and continued sub-zero temperatures will hit at the end of the week.

The weather warning is in place from 6am on Friday, until 11:59pm, suggesting another day of travel disruption and icy surfaces across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

According to forecasters at the BBC, the snowfall is expected to commence around 7am while the temperature sinks to -2C. Snow showers are to continue throughout periods of the day along with both sleet and rain.

The outlook towards Friday and the weekend reads: "Cloud, sleet and snow moving in from the west on Friday morning, but turning brighter in the south later. Generally drier on Saturday with bright spells and a chance of the odd wintry shower.

"Sunday will be a very windy day to start, with unsettled air from the south-west bringing sleet and snowfall for most, turning to rain on the lowest levels later."

Between 9am and 3pm, the arrival of sunshine means temperatures will climb a little to a maximum of 3C following a slight drop into the later evening to 2C.

There is also a chance of more snow showers between 4pm and midnight on Friday with a cloudy, but dry, Saturday forecasted. The snow could continue throughout Sunday with a chance of light showers throughout the day.

As expected, the Met Office have issued some advice while the weather warning is in place, advising locals to expect potential delays on the roads and public transport as well as the danger of injury due to icy pavements and surfaces.

They added that there is a slight chance of power cuts in the area, with the potential to affect other services such as mobile phone coverage.
