A cold week is in the offing for Britain as the risk of snow and ice looms, the Met Office has warned. Temperatures are due to plummet, with a health expert advising people to make sure their homes are heated to a certain temperature.
From the evening of Wednesday, December 7 to Monday, December 12, a Level 3 Cold Weather Alert for all parts of England will be in place frum the UK Health Security Agency. Temperatures will begin to drop dramatically with many parts of the UK due to experience freezing temperatures.
From tomorrow in Nottingham (Dec 7) temperatures are set to hit lows of -3C overnight with highs only rising to 3C - and at the weekend they won't get much above freezing even during the days. There are set to be snow showers on December 15 in Nottingham according to BBC weather.
Some sunny spells are expected, however, as cold air from the arctic moves in. Dr Agostinho Sousa, Consultant in Public Health Medicine at UKHSA, told The Guardian that the elderly and those with health conditions will feel the cold bite the most.

He said: "Cold weather can have serious consequences for health, and older people and those with heart or lung conditions can be particularly at risk. If you have a pre-existing medical condition, you should heat your home to a temperature that is comfortable for you.
"In rooms you mostly use such as the living room or bedroom, try to heat them to at least 18C if you can. Keep your bedroom windows closed at night. Wearing several layers of clothing will keep you warmer than one thicker layer."
For those hoping a white Christmas, at this stage, there is no mention of snow in the long-range forecast - only overnight frost and fog.
