Forecasters anticipate Scotland’s current warm spell to continue for the rest of this week.
Scots have been treated to an early spring scorcher in recent days, with the best of the conditions coming over the weekend just gone by.
The country recorded its highest temperature of the year so far, with a high of 20.2C found in the Wester Ross village of Kinlochewe on Saturday.
And that sunny and dry spell looks set to continue for most of us today, with a temperatures peaking at 17C in parts of south west Scotland this afternoon.
Today’s Met Office weather forecast for the UK reads: “A chilly start but after any early morning fog clears, it will be dry for the vast majority with long sunny spells and becoming warm again.
“Perhaps an isolated shower developing in the east and north later in the afternoon.”
Forecasters say that the latest uptick in weather is due to an area of high pressure that has been lingering around the country in recent days.
And this high pressure looks set to stay for the remainder of the week, which will “keep weather fronts at bay and cloud and rain away”, according to the Met Office.
When will Scotland’s warm and sunny spell come to an end?
The mini-heatwave looks set to come to an abrupt conclusion overnight on Monday going into Tuesday next week.
Early morning temperatures are expected to plunge to below freezing, with a low of -4C expected in northern Scotland, according to WXCHARTS.
And this overnight dip could get lower still on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a minimum of -7C or even -8C expected.
Daytime temperatures during this spell are also expected to struggle in the low single digits during the mid point of next week.
The Met Office expected there to be a “low chance of significantly colder weather spreading from north for a time” towards the end of its long range forecast for March 28 to April 5.
Showers and longer period of rain are expected to dominate the forecast during early April - with a chance of hail and thunder.
Conditions are expected to become more settled in mid-April, with temperatures more likely to be near average or perhaps below.
