Ex-Wisconsin Coach Paul Chryst to Join Texas Football, per Report

Texas is hiring former Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst as an offensive analyst and special assistant to the head coach, The Athletic’s Sam Khan Jr. and Jesse Temple reported Sunday.

Chryst has 11 years of head coaching experience, the first three at Pittsburgh and the last eight at Wisconsin. He led the Badgers to a 67–26 record in that span, was ranked in the AP poll at some point during each season and produced a 6–1 bowl record. As Wisconsin’s head coach, Chryst won the Big Ten West three times and was a two-time Big Ten Coach of the Year award winner.

The Badgers fired Chryst in the middle of last season when Wisconsin started 2–3, 0–2 in the Big Ten.

Prior to becoming a head coach, Chryst spent his coaching career as an offensive assistant—primarily offensive coordinator—for multiple schools. However, Chryst and Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian have not previously worked on the same staff.

Texas has a ton of experience on the offensive coaching staff already, as this is Sarkisian’s third head coaching job, and former Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood is the offensive coordinator.

The Longhorns are entering an important 2023 season with two high-end talents at quarterback, Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning, and as favorites to make the College Football Playoff. Last year, Texas went 8–5, 6–3 in conference play, and ended the season third in the Big 12 and with a loss in the Alamo Bowl.
