Ex-Tottenham star Dele Alli breaks silence on 'missing' claim amid Besiktas manager interview

Former Tottenham star Dele Alli has broken his silence after Besiktas boss Senol Gunes claimed that he has been unable to contact him after the midfielder was given a break from football.

It comes after a difficult year for the midfielder, as last January saw Alli move to Everton on a free transfer, joining Frank Lampard in helping the Toffees avoid relegation from the Premier League. There wasn't a slot for him in the side this campaign though, with a loan move agreed with Besiktas for the whole season last summer.

He has struggled to make an impression in Super Lig, eventually falling out of favour, with reports last week claiming that he had been "banished" from the squad for the rest of the season. It would mean that the former England international would likely watch from the stands for the remaining few months of his deal before returning to Goodison Park.

However, things have taken a turn yet again after Gunes revealed that he is unsure of the whereabouts of Dele, with the manager unable to get into contact with him, only for the player himself to take to social media in a bid to clear up any confusion.

The veteran coach told TRTSpor: "We gave Dele Alli permission for a small break, he hasn't come back yet. It's raining, that's probably why he didn't come. We're trying to find out where he is."

Dele has since responded on social media, however, posting on Instagram stories: "Hey guys, just had loads of messages so wanted to clear something up. The club gave me permission to attend a doctor's appointment today. I'm due back in training tomorrow as normal."
