A former SNP treasurer arrested as part of a police probe into party finances is starting a group on the economic interests of Ukraine.
Colin Beattie is seeking support for the initiative even though he is too ill to attend Parliament in person.
The MSP quit as treasurer last month after he was arrested then released without charge as part of a police investigation into SNP donations.
We reported yesterday that Beattie is resting due to an illness and will be working from home for the time being.
Despite being off ill, his office sent fellow MSPs an email about a new cross party group he is keen on launching:
“Colin Beattie is looking to establish a Ukraine CPG, the purpose of which will be to pursue cultural, economic and political interest. This is following an approach from Consul of Ukraine, Andrii Kuslii, whom Colin is working closely with.”
When he resigned as treasurer, he also stood back from his duties on Holyrood’s Public Audit committee.
A Labour source said: "All our thoughts are with Colin Beattie in his convalescence from an illness that thankfully means he can carry on doing all the same work but just not having to appear in public or risk coming into contact with the media."
