A former Rangers star has teamed up with a Wishaw-based charity for a fitness fundraiser.
Lewis Macleod, who starred for the Ibrox club from 2012 to 2014, is now a personal trainer with the recently opened New Age Fitness in Wishaw.
And Lewis, who also starred for Brentford, Wigan and Plymouth, is aiming to raise cash for Les Hoey’s DreamMaker Foundation every time a new client signs up to improve their lifestyle.
Lewis, who grew up in Newmains, said: “At the minute I’m doing my rehab and hopefully get back to football.
“But I’m really enjoying being part of the gym and thought I would try and do something to help Les and the team.
“I’m offering four-week block training sessions and for every person who signs up £20 will be donated to the charity.
“That means if you sign up for eight weeks it’s £40 and for 12 weeks it’s £60.
“Hopefully we can raise quite a bit of money and it’ll be good for people to know that the money they are spending is going to a good cause.”
During his time at Rangers, during which he made over 50 appearances scoring 11 goals, Lewis was a patron of the DreamMaker Foundation.
And now having returned north after his spell in England, he is looking forward to helping out more and has also enjoyed the camaraderie of being in the gym with his new colleagues.
He added: “Playing down south meant that I wasn’t able to commit as much as I would like.
“Being back up the road means I am able to help out a bit more.
“The staff in the gym are brilliant; it’s hard to call it work when you are enjoying it so much.
“Even if I do get back playing I will be keeping the PT sessions going.”
Les Hoey added: “I’m delighted that Lewis has decided to raise money for us.
“He was a patron for us when we first got started and it’s great that he has chosen to support us once again.”
