Ex-Rangers star owns up to ‘silly comments’ following Champions League loss at Celtic

Slovan Bratislava captain Vladimir Weiss has admitted to making “silly comments” about Celtic in the past and faced up to the loud jeers he received from the Hoops faithful throughout his teams 5-1 Champions League loss on Wednesday.

Weiss, 34, spent a season on loan at Rangers as a teenager while still in the books of Manchester City. He’s went on to have a pretty nomadic career with spells in Spain, Italy, Greece, Qatar and now Slovakia.

Speaking to reporters following the full-time whistle, the one-time Rangers star said: "That was OK [being booed], I don't take these things personally, it's ok. It's nice they remember me after such a long time!

"Obviously the result is not what we wanted. We were expecting a really difficult game, which it was, but I think I had a good chance at 1-0, maybe if I take that the game would go differently, but unfortunately it didn't.

"They showed the quality they have. They played so fast, and we just weren't good enough in in some moments.

"Obviously we watched some videos of them; I think it's a totally different team from what I remember.

“They play fast, modern football and, yeah, it was too much for us tonight.

“I'm a totally different person now but it was fun when I played here.

"I hoped for a better result tonight, but it didn't come. That's football."

Meanwhile, Kevin Wimmer was pleased to have finally scored his first goal for the club, over two years after joining from Rapid Vienna.

"It was a very nice moment for me,” said the experienced defender.

“I saw only Celtic players in front of me, so I just tried to score with my left foot and somehow got it on target.

“It was a nice feeling to see it going in the net.

“Also at 3-1, I thought if we could score one more maybe we could get back into the game.

“Unfortunately we made too many mistakes in the second half."
