Steven Gerrard's search for a new job continues after Southampton chiefs were left 'unconvinced' he was the man for the top role, according to reports.
The former Rangers manager is believed to have held talks over replacing Nathan Jones at St Mary's as the Saints scrap for their lives in a bid to remain in the English Premier League for next season. The former England international started the campaign at Aston Villa but lost his job at Villa Park and has been out of work since.
The Daily Mirror report the south coast side held talks with the former Light Blues man about the position but the board weren't convinced he was the right candidate for the role. Chris Wilder, linked with Aberdeen following Jim Goodwin's sacking, was another name spoken to but he suffered a similar fate to Gerrard.

They had beaten Manchester City as part of that memorable run and will be hoping to take that sort of performance and spirit into life under a new boss and secure Premier League survival.
