Ex-Rangers boss 'makes contact' with agents over James Tavernier

Besiktas are reported to have opened talks with Rangers star James Tavernier's agent over a potential move to Turkey.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the manager of the Turkish giants, and it seems they're interested in taking the right-back to Eastern Europe.

A number of clubs in Turkey and Qatar have been credited with an interest in the Ibrox skipper, including; Istanbul Basaksehir, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, Al-Arabi and Al-Garafa.

The transfer window closes in Qatar today, meanwhile, Turkish clubs have until Friday, September 13 to conclude their business.

Tavernier remains a Rangers player for now, however, reports in Turkey suggest this could change in the days ahead.

Fotomac claims that Besiktas have upped their interest in the Scottish Premiership star.

They claim that Van Bronckhorst has made Tavernier his top target, with the Dutchman believed to have 'made contact' with the representatives of the defender about a potential move.

Tavernier was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia earlier this summer, as Philippe Clement insisted he didn't want to lose his captain.

The defender said at the time:  “It’s speculation that’s been around my name for quite a while now, so it’s nothing new.

“I have two seasons left and I am fully focused with the job in hand. That’s performing for Rangers. There is always going to be speculation in football, regardless of which player it is.

“It’s down to the individual to knuckle down and fully focus on the job in hand. I think I’ll always have unfinished business until I hang up my boots."
