But he makes the step up to Scotland's second tier as he replaces John McGlynn.

A club statement read: "Raith Rovers FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Ian Murray as the club’s new First Team Manager on a two-year-contract.

"The board were all in agreement that Ian proved himself as the outstanding candidate in an extremely strong pool of interviewees for the role.

"Ian will take up the post with immediate effect following the expiry of his contract at League One side Airdrieonians, where he has been the North Lanarkshire side’s head coach for the last four years. We thank Airdrieonians for their help in this matter

"Murray led the Diamonds to successive top half finishes in League One during his time there, including a third-place finish when the Rovers won the First Division in the curtailed 2019/20 campaign.

"Since then, he has taken Airdrieonians to successive second place finishes in League One, where this season the team went on a 23-game unbeaten run before being pipped at the final hurdle in the Championship Play-Off Final by Glasgow side, Queens Park.

"We are looking forward to this exciting new chapter in the club’s history, as Ian takes up position as First team manager.

"We would also like to thank all our fans for their patience, as we followed the recruitment process and trust you will join us in welcoming Ian to the Rovers"

Chaiman Steven MacDonald added: “I am delighted to welcome Ian Murray to Raith Rovers as First Team Manager.

"Ian is a creative hardworking ambitious manager, with an ability and foresight to make changes at the appropriate time, coupled with his determination to win, i feel we have made a great appointment and look forward to Ian bringing success to Raith Rovers”.
