Ex-Pro Bowl OL Apologizes for Incident With ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith

At one point during quarterback Jay Cutler’s eight-year stint with the Chicago Bears, offensive lineman Kyle Long defended the quarterback in an embarrassing way to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith.

Long made the confession when speaking on Saturday’s episode of his brother’s podcast, Green Light with Chris Long. The former Bears lineman didn’t like that Smith had publicly disparaged Cutler, and he ended up drunkenly engaging Smith about it at an ESPN Super Bowl party.

“One of my biggest regrets in life involves Stephen A. Smith, and it’s something that I think about often,” Kyle Long said. “It’s one of those things where you’ll be laying in bed, and you’re reminded of something you did that was embarrassing. And you’re like, ‘F---, is this a bad dream?’”

Long admitted he was about “12 beers deep” when he addressed Smith and said “something smart” about Cutler. It ended up being an awkward moment for both Long and Smith.

“And he [Smith] gave me that look like, ‘You are a f------ idiot,” Long said.

Long admitted that he’s wanted to apologize to Smith ever since that day, so he took the opportunity during the podcast to look at the camera and say he’s sorry.
