Mary Trump, the niece of Donald Trump, has been airing her opinion about her uncle’s fourth indictment in the Georgia state election interference case, and in a recent episode of her podcast, she suggested that the Fulton County case is beyond an ironclad case.
What Happened: Referring to the indictment, Mary Trump said 19 people have been indicted, including a former president and one who is currently the de facto leader of the Republican Party, under the RICO statute. They have been charged with 10 indictments on 41 counts of criminal felonies, including 13 against Donald Trump, she said.
RICO, or Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, is a federal law passed by Congress in 1970 to combat organized crimes.
Speaking on the Mary Tump Show that was aired on Wednesday, political scientist Norman Ornstein said there are 30 unindicted co-conspirators and there could be more indictments from Fulton Country District Attorney Fani Willis.
“This Trump gang has organized the crime mob in action,” Ornstein said. The political scientist also lauded Willis for the “comprehensive and extraordinarily well done” indictment, which ran to 96 pages, more than twice as long as Special Counsel Jack Smith’s indictment in Washington D.C.
“It’s I think, as close to an ironclad case as you can get under Georgia law,” he said. These 19 indicted people are either big shots or small shots and all of them face a minimum of five years in jail, he added.
Mary Trump agreed with him on this. “This case is beyond Ironclad, it’s stunning how they essentially crafted the case…I don’t see any defense to the case,” she said.
There’s a reason it took 2-1/2 years to press charges, the podcaster said. “We imminently got what we wanted…not only did the wheels of justice try to slow in Fulton County, Georgia, they grind exceedingly fine,” she added.
Desertion In The Cards? Ornstein also flagged the possibility of some unindicted co-conspirators having already flipped. The thought is in line with what Donald Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen said in a media appearance. The former president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner may be a cooperating witness, he said.
Many of these 19 indicted people could also be telling themselves whether they should really destroy their life for Donald Trump, the political commentator said. “And so it’ll be even more difficult for him [Donald Trump],” he added.
With the increased possibility of the trial being televised, a lot of people are going to be shocked as they realize for the first time that what they’ve been told is completely false about what Trump did, Ornstein said. He also raised the possibility of Donald Trump intimidating the witnesses.
“Somebody is going to lock him behind bars before these trials begin because he cannot help himself from doing this,” he said.
Mary Trump said she sincerely hoped that at least one of the judges has the gumption to say “We have had enough and we will take no more.”
