Ex-Premier League referee explains why Ruben Dias wasn't sent off vs Arsenal in Ben White clash

Arsenal's Premier League title challenge took another setback as they lost 4-1 against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring for City before John Stones doubled their lead before half-time.

De Bruyne grabbed his second and the reigning champions' third goal of the game in the second half before Rob Holding grabbed a late consolation goal. Erling Haaland completed the rout as he broke the Premier League record for most goals (33) in a 38-game season.

Mikel Arteta's side failed to offer any significant threat against City as their lead at the top of the table was cut down to just two points. Pep Guardiola's side are now in pole position to win the Premier League title as they have two games in hand - that could see them move four points clear of Arsenal if they win both fixtures.

Some fans felt that one moment in the game could have seen City reduced down to 10 men after a clash between Ben White and Ruben Dias in the first half. When asked whether he agreed with Oliver's on-field decision to not issue a red card to the City defender, Gallagher told Sky Sports: "Ben White and Ruben Dias were going at each other.

"White has a little nip at him [Dias], then he flicks his foot out but you would never say that is violent conduct. It can't be serious foul play.

"I think it was the making of the game, it was a great advert for football. A masterclass of refereeing and one people can learn so much from."

Arsenal will now look to return to winning ways in the Premier League as they host Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium next Tuesday. The Blues are in poor form under Frank Lampard and the Gunners are in desperate need of three points after a difficult night against City.
