Ex-Newcastle United defender training with National League side in bid to 'regain fitness'

Former Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose has reportedly been training with National League side York City.

Rose has been a free agent since his contract at Watford was mutually terminated in September. He played just eight league games as the Hornets suffered relegation from the Premier League last season.

According to a report from The Sun, Rose has been training with the fifth-tier outfit in recent weeks in a bid to regain his fitness

Tottenham plucked Rose from Leeds United's academy in 2007, and the left-back marked his debut with a wonder-goal against Arsenal in the North London derby in April 2010.

The former England international went onto make 214 appearances for Spurs during his 13 seasons at the club. He also helped guide them to the 2015 League Cup final and 2019 UEFA Champions League final under Mauricio Pochettino.

He spent the second half of the 2019/20 season on loan at St James' Park, and racked up 13 appearances for the Magpies. Rose has been capped 29 times by England, and played five times as they reached the semi-finals at the 2018 World Cup.

Rose also had loan spells at Watford, Peterborough United, Bristol City, and Newcastle's bitter rivals Sunderland earlier in his career.
