Ex-Newcastle goalkeeper expects Old Trafford record to 'haunt' them

Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop believes his former side’s poor record at Old Trafford will “haunt” them against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Magpies last tasted victory at the Theatre of Dreams in December 2013 and have failed to win any of their previous seven visits to Man United (L6, D1). However, Eddie Howe’s side head to Manchester in buoyant mood after registering back-to-back victories over Fulham and Brentford respectively to climb into the top six.

Question marks over their lack of productivity in front of goal have also been answered emphatically with Newcastle racking up nine goals in their last two outings. Newcastle can jump above Man United in the table with a win but Hislop is unconvinced that they can secure a third win on the bounce.

“I just think Manchester United are in good enough form, [Manchester] City game aside,” Hislop told ESPNFC.

“I feel they get the better of Newcastle … just. Newcastle never really perform well at Old Trafford either and I just feel that comes back to haunt them yet again.”

Hislop ultimately predicted a 1-0 win for the hosts, who have won three games on the spin in all competitions. The Red Devils boast a game in hand over Newcastle and can move four points clear of the Magpies with a win.
